Is the Nevada Way
“We have some of the greatest doctors and hospitals in the country. The problem is, we don't have enough of them.”
- Governor Joe Lombardo, State of the State Address, 2025
Unfortunately, Nevada ranks near the bottom of all 50 states for available doctors, with long waits for appointments and limited access to specialists.
To address these challenges, Governor Lombardo is proposing the Healthcare Access Act and to create the Nevada Health Authority. These will expand residency programs, and attract top talent — addressing critical provider shortages in underserved areas.

Access Act:
- Establishes a $25-million annual fund to strategically address Nevada's critical healthcare workforce shortages. This initiative prioritizes underserved areas and high-need specialties, driving innovation through public-private partnerships, competitive grants, and targeted infrastructure investments.
- Strengthens Nevada's Graduate Medical Education programs by streamlining administration under the Nevada Health Authority, expanding faculty recruitment efforts and incentivizing training in high-need specialties.
- Reduces administrative barriers to care by standardizing prior authorization processes and timelines while ensuring prompt provider reimbursement.
- Increases access to dental care by expanding training programs for dental hygienists and assistants.
- Accelerates licensing and credentialing processes for healthcare providers. By streamlining these systems, the Act helps alleviate workforce shortages and ensures medical professionals can quickly begin serving Nevada's communities.
